1997 The Nine Mile Run Project, Ample Opportunity: A Community Dialogue collaborative discursive public art program developed with Bob Bingham and Reiko Goto.

"Equation" This is an installation/research project about a small stream called Nine Mile Run that runs next to a slag heap, between Squirrel Hill and Swissvale. I have created a system of site, non-site and sub-site to promote my daily inquiry and activity. The system can be read as a narrative. Hewlett Gallery, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh Pa.

"Cho-en" (butterfly garden) This is a garden/habitat in the midst of an urban redevelopment project. In early work with a biologist, entomologist and botanist we were able to identify a discontinuous green corridor that might provide access for insects and birds through the site. We planned and executed a small garden with extensive guidelines on maintenance. The goal was to turn the city gardeners into stewards/guides of the garden. A project of the public art program San Francisco Redevelopment Agency. Artwork for the Yerba Buena Garden in San Francisco.


"Haru" (spring) An installation of dried Anise stalks and Anise Swallowtail chrysalis in a room with an open window. Headlands Center for the arts.

"Emergence" Working with landscape architect Jeff Brown we created a circle of dried anise stalks to constrain the movement of a gilded canoe which carried a cargo of native plants. Presented at the Marin Civic Center (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright) Marin County Ca.


"Aqua Pura" A public work for the City of San Francisco's Water Department. Aqua Pura consists of a computer controlled interactive audio/photography wall onsite and a freely distributable book. Collins & Goto, San Francisco Art Commission Art in Pubic Places Program.


"A Liquid Evaluation Of The Brooklyn Waterfront" An interactive installation exploring the issues of "public access" on Brooklyn's Waterfront. The project included a robotic video cart, a large scale model of the waterfront, and an interactive tidal display. The project culminated with a community tour and discussion of a post-industrial naturally decomposing/naturally blooming pier on the waterfront which is currently the site of a major wildlife study. Collaborative Project Tim Collins and Reiko Goto. Creative Time, N.Y. N.Y. 


"Palingenesis" A project that explores the congressional inquiry which resulted from a chemical spill in the Sacremento river. The project includes manipulated newspaper images and an interactive water/condensation device, as well as audio and video. Walnut Creek Civic Arts Gallery, Goto & Collins, California.

We were asked to design an artistic response to the school's future sale of 1/2 it's property to developers.
