Dear
Montera Lindsey,
Hi! How are you doing?
I'm doing fine. What did you like best about the tour of Nine
Mile Run? I liked Duck Hollow and being on top of the slag plateau.
I remember about the five things I collected; A small piece of
brick engraved with letters, a beautiful real thin white flower,
a red colored rock, a smooth beige rock, and a big black and brown
lumpy rock. It was fun at Nine Mile Run. What did you collect
there? What did you learn about the stream? I learned a lot. I
saw a leech and a snail in the stream. How about you? I think
people should collect slag. It is so cool. Don't you think that
would be cool? I think a lot of people should help clean up the
stream in the future. That would be cool! I think we should grow
riparian plants. Then the animals would live off it. And there
would be more oxygen. That would be great. Don't you think so?
Sincerely,
LeAndra Baldwin.

Dear
Emily Shelly and Nikki Campbell,
I had a lot of fun
on our field trip. I learned a lot about Nine Mile Run that I
didn't know before. Like that the stream is polluted. I also didn't
how long this project was going on. That was really neat when
Time shoed us the dissolved oxygen test. I hope we can make Nine
Mile Run a nice place for all of us. The stream is polluted and
I wonder if we can ever make it a clean stream. I hope to see
you soon!
Your friend,
Angela Destro.
|
Dear
Kaitlin Bisdee,
How are you? Did you
have fun at the Nine Mile Run site? I did. What was your favorite
part? Mine was finding the objects to put in our bags. I can't
wait until we go in January. I think they should make the slag
plateau a park and plant trees and flowers there. Did you see
any animals there? I saw some birds. Would you like to live in
Duck Hollow? I can't wait to see you next! I hope it's soon!
Your partner and friend,
Triona Elaine Hartman.
|
Dear Tasha
and Miesha,
I liked it when we
went up on the slag plateau. That was fun. There was barely any
water in the stream! I couldn't believe it! Could you? I think
they will have the stream up and running in ten years if we can
make a difference. I know we can. Would you change anything about
Nine Mile Run? I would. See ya soon!
Your partner,
Lindsey O'Toole
PS. We learned about
aquatic organisms in the stream and riparian plants.

Dear LaShay,
What I like most about
our tour at Nine Mile Run was when we were standing on top of
the plateau. I also liked it when we saw Duck Hollow. It is so
little. I wonder what it would be like to live in Duck Hollow.
I bet you it is really quiet. And when we went to the stream it
looked so dirty. I feel sorry for all of the animals who cannot
drink out of the water. And if they try they will get sick.
What do you think should
happen? I hope they do something good to the place and not houses
because animals won't be able to come up and do whatever. They
should make it a place for kids to play. Why do you think nine
Mile Run is so important? I think it is important because they
do a lot of things for the Ohio River. The changes I would make
for the Nine Mile Run environment is recycle. Another way you
can help is by not putting things in the water. I didn't like
the way the water looked. I hope they find a cure to make the
water clean. Would you go and help them out on your free time?
I know I would. Some people don't even care about the water. I
am going to go over there and help clean up one day.
Sincerely,
Akeya Kirby.
|
Dear Chifawn
Jackson,
I hope you like the
field trip because I did. What part did you like? I liked the
part when we went up the slagdrop. I thought that was cool. I
remembered the part when we saw where the steel mill used to be
but I liked the way it looked. Well I have to go now but I think
that it was fun going to Nine Mile Run with you and I hope you
liked it too.
Aimee Thompson.
PS. We also saw ducks
when we first got there.
|
Dear
Jessica Striner,
How are you? I'm great!
Do you remember how big the plateau was? I think that was cool.
I liked the barge that floated down the river. Isn't that interesting
that animals live under rocks? I found it interesting.
I liked planting the
riparian plants. I remember learning about the mouth of the stream
and thing like that. We also learned a lot about Duck Hollow and
that lots of trains went past there. I think that in the future
there will be less slag and more trees. More animals will come.
Lots of people will want to come there. Maybe people will think
twice about building something.
If Nine Mile Run was
clean with lots more trees, people would enjoy it . The animals
will feel safe there. They could have more homes. People just
think it is a slag dump. I think lots of people will like it there.
Your partner,
Mallory Vaughn

Dear Andrea
and Adina,
Hi how are you? I'm
fine. I had fun at Nine Mile Run. Did you like the field trip?
What do you think about the future of Nine Mile Run? I think it
may be clean and nice. I learned the stream is dirty. It's filled
with carbon dioxide. Things we can do to clean up nine Mile Run
are; pick the dirty stuff, donate some money, vote for people
that will try to clean up the stream. Do you like Nine Mile Run?
Sincerely,
Ashkia Helton

Dear
Shcna and Chemera,
I enjoyed the trip
to the Nine Mile Run site. It was very exciting and educational.
I was glad to meet your school and yourself. it helped me learn
more about the environment and what we should do to keep the river
clean. I was very glad when I met you and had you for my partner.
In the future I hope the Nine Mile Run will be more cleaner and
healthier for the environment. I learned that I should be more
thoughtful about the environment. I also think the slag plateau
should be a little more cleaner.
Sincerely,
Lucretia Wright.
PS. I think we should
care more about the aquatic organisms too.
|
Dear Alison
and Shannon,
When we were on top
of the slag plateau I got a piece of slag. Did either of you guys
get a piece of slag? We did plant deer tongue, right? I think
we did. I had fun, did you guys? Our group at the stream got five
parts per ml and the first group got six parts per ml (I'm talking
about dissolved oxygen). We only got to see three aquatic organisms.
But the three aquatic organisms were neat looking. I think in
the future, Nine Mile Run is going to be clean. I don't think
it is going to be dirty. I would plant more plants to help make
it look better. I've got to go. Bye.
Sincerely,
Tiffanie Lucas.

Dear Owen
and Matt,
I liked when we collected
rocks and when Reiko asked us all those questions. That was fun!
Did you see all those houses in Duck Hollow? Did you like it when
they told us where upstream was? I think that they have houses
and movies theaters and also heard there will be a shopping center.
I would like to build a park and with food and candy. Well, I'll
see you next time.
Would you like if they
would build something? I wouldn't. I learned about the upstream
and downstream.
Your friend,
James Hill
|
Dear Adrian
and Shawn,
The drawing that I
drew (of the slag plateau) looked like a horse. What did you guys
draw? I learned that the trail of Nine Mile Run and the trail
of Frick Park connect. Did you know that? The future looks perfect
for Nine Mile Run. Don't you think so? Definitely, the changes
are the stop of littering and polluting in and near the stream
and rivers.
Your partner,
Kenneth Glenn Michael
Jr.
|
Dear Pete,
Do you think the field
trip to Nine Mile Run was fun? I think it was. What part did you
like? I liked the part where we planted our own plant. I hope
the Nine Mile Run stream gets better, like people pick up the
trash. Don't you? What's your favorite thing you learned? My favorite
thing is that we learned about that animals eat other animals.
And we learned about PH, that was cool. Well that's all. Bye.
Your partner,
Kevin Harper
|
Dear David,
Hi David, how are you
doing? Did you like the field trip? I remember when we were planted.
We learned that the stream only has a couple fish like catfish.
I think the Nine Mile Run would be nice and clean if they can
keep on working. It could be cleaner so the animals could drink
the water and be safe.
See you later,
Jimmy
|
Dear Deandre
and Adam,
Hey guys, how's it
going? I liked the cliff best, what did you like the best? that
might be cool if the hill was covered in snow and you could sled
but you'd be at the bottom. I hope the stream gets some water.
I also hope the stream gets some fish. The stream has no water.
See ya,
Matt Krause
|
Dear Patrick,
I'm sorry I could not
come. I heard it was fun. Next time I might go. I don't know if
you're my partner or not. I know Josh was your partner at Nine
Mile Run. I didn't go.
Sincerely,
Steven Marchitello

Dear Montessori
Students,
I was not there on
the field trip. I learned that aquatic organisms live under rocks
and stones on the bottom of lakes or stream. They eat leaves that
fall from trees to the water. They effect the food chain. I learned
that an environment is a surrounding of someone or something.
I learned that riparian plants can help erosion at the stream.
I am sorry I was mot there, but I learned a lot of interesting
things in our classroom.
Hope to see you next
time!
Marsha Matvy

Dear Corey,
I liked planting the
seed. The most fun thing about the trip was we didn't go to school
and do work. Did you like the field trip? I think it's cool that
people live so close to Nine Mile Run. I learned that there is
a bad sewer effects the stream. We should make it better. Do you
care?
Sincerely,
Cyrus Butler
|
Dear Patrick
Brindle and Gavin Spearman,
I think you are very
nice. I think we will make Nine Mile Run beautiful and nice for
the animals. What do you think? I think we can plant a plant each
month to change the environment and to make it better. I also
learned that the dissolved oxygen has 6 parts. I think thats pretty
good for the stream, but we can make it better. The thing I remember
the most about the field trip is the view we had on top of the
slag plateau. I really liked that. That's what I like about Nine
Mile Run.

Dear Shana
& Chemera,
I enjoyed the trip
to Nine Mile Run sight. It was very exciting and educational.
I was glad to meet with you and your school. It helped me to learn
more about the environment and what we should do to help the river
clean. I am very glad to meet with you. In the future I hope the
Nine Mile Run will be cleaner and healthier about its environment.
I also think the slag plateau should be cleaner.
Sincerely,
Keshia Wright
Ps. I think we should
care about the aquatic organisms.

Dear Moses,
I had a good time at
Nine Mile Run. I hope to see you again next year.
Ps. Write back! I learned
about the upstream and downstream.
